Product Description

Anhydrous Ammonia can be compressed and liquefied under low temperature and pressure to rsult in its liquid state. As the Liquid Ammonia gets to adequate temperature or is exposed to atmosphere, it vaporizes. This colorless solution has a strong and pungent smell. Even when exposed on a small level, this solution can be felt by its characteristic smell. The major safety feature of this solution is its smell. Ammonia has a chemical formula of NH3, UN No. as 1005 and CAS registry as 7664-41-7. This is a versatile chemical that is used in many industrial applications. Industries, like chemical, pharmaceutical and rubber uses this chemical in gaseous and/ or liquid state.

When temperature rises over 450ºC, this gas starts decomposing and releasing Hydrogen and Nitrogen gases. It can also be decomposed at lower temperature, with appropriate catalysts. Steel container are used for supplying
Liquefied Ammonia in several capacities, like:

  • 40 to 60 kg Cylinders
  • 400 kg Tonners
  • 6 to 15 MT Tankers
  • ISO Tanks

These containers with the capability to withstand higher pressures comply to essential statutory requirements of the International Maritime Organization and the Petroleum and Exp. Safety Organization.

Ammonia is not fire hazardous in open and ventilated area, but it can be a fire hazard in a closed area. It is highly hazardous, especially there are oil and other combustible material. Its exposure can lead to the corrosion of brass, copper, silver, gold, galvanized surfaces, aluminum alloys and bronze.

Ammonia solution (NH3(aq)) is also called aqueous ammonia and ammonia liquors. It is safe to handle and can help preventing hazards by accompanying ammonia gas to lowering its vapor pressure. This inorganic chemical is used by many industries as a liquid chemical. Ammonia solution is sometimes considered as Ammonium Hydroxide (NH4OH) with CAS registry 1336-21-6 and Un No. 2672.

Ammonia Solution produced with a concentration of about 25% w/w, is provided in different packaging capacities:

  • 5 Lt. To 235 Lt. HMHDPE Plastic containers
  • 10 MT to 20 MT Tankers
  • 22 MT ISO Tankers

AMMONIA SOLUTION: Ammonia gas is released promptly instantly, which causes pungent odor and irritation to eye, skin, mucous membranes and respiratory tract.

Nature of Hazards: Pressure rises quickly due to heating, which enhances the severe bursting risk. This mist and vapor can cause irritation on skin, eyes and respiratory tract. The extended contact with the liquid causes severe burns to the body parts. Spilled liquid evaporates and spreads in atmosphere.

Protective Devices: In order to protect your respiratory system, we an Ammonia canister Mask or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Goggles will protect eyes, Rubber/ PVC gloves will protect hands, similarly boots, hood and suit must be worn to protect complete body. Always keep an eye-wash bottle containing clean water ready.

Emergency Action: One must take the vehicle to open ground, stop the engine and warn road uses by marking roads. It is important to keep people away from dangerous area. If possible, keep people facing the wind coming from leakage or spillage direction. Wear your protective suit and other devices.

Spillage: Warn inhabitants in case the vapors drift towards populated area. Use sand or earth to contain leaking liquid. One can also use water spray to bring down the vapor.

Fire: In case of fire, spray water to cool the containers.

First Aid: Remove contaminated clothes and wash all affected areas on body with water. Wash your eyes for at least 15 minutes if Ammonia vapours get in to eyes. If one experience symptoms due to inhalation or contact of ammonia vapors with skin or eyes, then must immediately seek medical treatment. Person who has inhaled it must lie down and remain still. It is important to keep the person warm. If the patient is breathing normally, then do not use artificial respiration system.

Additional Information: Ammonia Drums/Jerrycans must be handled with care. These containers must be protected from the sources of heat, as the high temperature can result in rise in high vapor pressure. Drums/Jerrycans must not be loaded above the height of truck body. These containers must be kept completely within the truck, no part must project outside the truck body.

Liquefied Ammonia is provided in steel containers of capacities, such as:

  • 40 to 60 kg Cylinders
  • 400 kg Tonners
  • 6 to 15 MT Tankers
  • ISO Tanks

The packaging units that can withstand higher pressures comply with essential statutory requirements of the International Maritime Organization and the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization.

It is safer to use or store ammonia in an open and well-ventilated area, in comparison to a closed and confined area, especially when there are oil and other combustible materials are around. An exposure to ammonia gas can lead to corrosion of copper, brass, bronze, galvanized surfaces, aluminum alloys, silver and gold.
