An oxy-fuel flame in the process of oxy-cutting heats up the steel to the ignition temperature. A gaseous oxygen jet on the heated up steel creates more heat and melts the steel. Oxidization of steel in close proximity with the oxygen jet creates metallic slag which is blown from the cut, enabling more steel to react with the Oxygen.
